St Mary`s Church Registers

The Baptisms & Burials have been transcribed from film of the parish registers.   Omissions & illegible details have been added from the Bishop`s Transcripts.  This has been a huge undertaking & without the help of Holly Gaskell it might not have been possible.

See Taxal records on this website for other Baptisms; Marriages and Burials of Disley residents

Under Hardwicke`s Marriage Act which came in to force in 1754, all marriages had to be in the `mother church` which for Disley was Stockport St. Mary`s.  For Lyme Handley it was Prestbury.  This Act stayed in force until the 1836 General Registration Act.  Even then many Disley people married in Prestbury or Stockport.  Some of these are shown on the Strays page.
